West Sac/Natomas

West Sacramento is right across the river from downtown Sacramento and is home for many folks that work in downtown Sacramento.  West Sacramento is a vibrant city in Yolo County that is recognized regionally and statewide for its innovative, business-friendly government, quality of life, and unsurpassed potential as a city adjacent to our state’s capitol.

There is something for everyone in West Sacramento.  West Sacramento has many restaurants and is home to Raley Field, where the Oakland Athletics’ Triple A affiliate, the River Cats, play.   In West Sacramento, you can watch a 35,000 ton cargo ship dock while you fish from the opposite bank.   Take a walk along the City’s miles of hiking trails.   Summit the climbing wall at the City’s new state-of-the-art Recreation Center.   Visit the newest exhibit at the West Sacramento Historical Society Museum.   Have a picnic by the water in the City’s beautiful River Walk Park.   And everywhere you go, ask residents, business owners, and City staff how they feel about this community—they love it.

Despite all of the City’s accomplishments to date, the best chapters of West Sacramento’s story are yet to be written.  There are bridges to be built, levees to be strengthened, a streetcar system to be constructed, and entire downtown districts to be designed and built.  In West Sacramento, you’ll find a place where residents are proud of what their community has already accomplished and look forward to what they’ll accomplish next.   West Sacramento is a community where residents from all backgrounds live and work together with the common purpose of improving the quality of life for all.

Natomas, a community just north of downtown Sacramento, is one of the very few areas in Sacramento that has yet to be fully developed, after seeing major residential development in the 1990s and 2000s.  Natomas is generally defined as south of the Sacramento County line, north of the Garden Highway and the American River, west of the Natomas East Main Drain, and east of the Sacramento River.

Known for its relative affordability and proximity to downtown Sacramento, a great benefit of living in Natomas is the ease of access to Interstate 5, Interstate 80, and the northern portion of Highway 99’s route through Sacramento, making it a desirable living area for workers who commute; it’s a very short drive to downtown Sacramento and an easy 20 minute drive to Roseville.

Sleep Train Arena is a major feature of the Natomas area.  Also, the Sacramento International Airport is within the bounds of Natomas as defined by Sacramento County, but it is several miles away from the largely populated area of Natomas.  Natomas is the closest portion of the city to the airport.  Thus, there are many hotels located throughout the Natomas area.  Natomas is a historical flood plain and is therefore subject to flooding.

Nonetheless, if you are looking for bang-for-the-buck, access to the river, and you want a very short commute to downtown, looking for homes for sale in Natomas might be worthwhile.
